“Let God be true though every man be false that you may be justified in your words and prevail when you are judged.”

That is a scripture which has become very meaningful to me over the years; a reminder of something the Spirit of God showed me very early in my life with him. The scripture he used to do that was Isaiah 55:8-9 “My thoughts are not your thoughts, says the Lord, neither are your ways my ways, for as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my thoughts higher than your thoughts, and my ways higher than your ways.”
In these verses he made it very clear to me that the only way I would ever be reckoned as justified in my words by him was by always keeping my conversation in line with his revealed word in the scriptures. Again, the only way I could expect to prevail with him in judgement was by living my life according to his great commands of Matt22:37-40 i.e.“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength,” and “Love your neighbour as you love yourself”. Always bearing in mind that this is only possible as I life my life in and by the power of his Spirit, just as he has made it possible for me.
Mind you, this second command which Jesus rated as being like the first has now, by courtesy of his new commandment” been taken a quantum leap further. For those who have been reborn of God the level of love required was summed up by him in John 13:34, “A new commandment I give you that you love one another as I have loved you”, i.e. a love which only our God is capable of. And in order to empower us to fulfil this command, the scriptures tell us that God has poured his love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. In other words he continually pours his ability to love into us, enabling us to love one another as he loves us. Amazing grace!!
