“Nothing is covered that will not be made known or hidden that will not be revealed. Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and whatever you have whispered in private rooms will be proclaimed from the housetops.”

This is an amazing list of statements which were made by Jesus, and I personally find them very sobering, very challenging!! They always remind me of Matt 12:33-37, which finishes with the startling declaration, “By your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned.”

I wonder how many of us really take these statements of Jesus and genuinely lay them up in our hearts, bearing in mind the purpose of doing this as stated by David the king of Israel in Ps 119:11 “I have laid up your words in my heart THAT I MIGHT NOT SIN AGAINST YOU.” How often do we lay up scriptures in our minds; our memories; so that we can appear to others to know God’s word, or for some other selfish reason, without really giving a thought to just how powerful a weapon the word is against the desires of the flesh, and the enticements of the devil?

Are we, by practice, aware of what an amazing weapon we have been given to use in this warfare against the forces of spiritual darkness which we are involved in? (Eph 6:10-18) Have we ever received or sought training in the usage of this weapon? What soldier has ever gone to battle without learning how to use the weapons he has at his disposal? If not learned, then why not?

How many of us are even aware of this war which rages all around us for the eternal souls of mankind? Do we even begin to understand that no soldier in any war ever fights just for himself? Neither his, nor our prime responsibility is self-protection, self preservation, but is instead to stand side by side with all true brethren, sometimes covering their backs as we advance together into Satan’s territory.
