“The Macedonian believers gave according to their means, and beyond their means, begging us for the favour of taking part in the relief of the saints”.

What a beautiful, loving, generous heart these brethren had! What a wonderful example they are for us in this so affluent age and area we live in! BUT HOW DO WE MEASURE UP?

I am not talking of our almost legalistic, compulsory giving of 10% to church coffers. NO, but I am talking about a real, active, loving concern for the spreading of God’s true Word WORLDWIDE and for the welfare of the suffering brethren everywhere, not just the few we may know of personally.

Psalm 58:9-11 “If you take away from the midst of you the yoke, the pointing of the finger and the speaking wickedness, if you POUR YOURSELVES OUT FOR THE HUNGRY AND SATISFY THE DESIRES OF THE AFFLICTED, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom shall be as noonday, the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your desire with good things, and make your bones strong, and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.”

Ask yourself, did God send Jesus to go through what he went through on our behalf just to solve our physical health and financial problems? Surely these are just incidentals! The main purpose of Calvary was spiritual, and so is the main focus of the entirety of our God’s word; the physical expression and evidence of Jesus Christ. So when we read, “Pour yourselves out for the hungry and satisfy the desires of the afflicted”, the word is speaking primarily about the spiritually hungry and afflicted. Therefore it must be our first consideration to lovingly feed them on the bread of heaven, the flesh of Jesus Christ, the Word of God; the scriptures.
