"But you are not in darkness brethren, for that Day to surprise you like a thief."

I have read that scripture many times over the years, but just this morning the Spirit opened my eyes to see something I had not seen clearly before. So often we take that scripture to say, "You are not in darkness for that Day to surprise you", as if the surprise element of the Day of the Lord was the only important part of that verse.

However, after what the Spirit said to me, I realised that an equally important point which he was making was contained in the last few words, i.e. "LIKE A THIEF". He showed me so clearly, that just as a thief's break-in always comes as a surprise, even for those who are prepared, so too, the Day of the Lord will be a surprise for all of mankind, including those of his people who will be physically alive to witness it. But it is each one's individual choice as to whether that surprise will be a very pleasant one, or a very terrifying one. This is what the Lord Jesus did for us on Calvary, i.e. he purchased the right of choice for us with his shed blood.

Which have you chosen? Will you be like one of the foolish virgins, or like one of the wise ones which Jesus spoke of in Matt 25:1-13?
