“What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loose his soul, and what shall a man give in exchange for his soul.”

We live in a world which constantly promotes bettering our position, especially our financial position, and what better way to do this than to accumulate possessions, especially investment property and stock market shares. Financial independence and long term security is the preoccupation of many, and this is being promoted by governments as the highest form of responsible citizenship. This all sounds so very sensible to the natural man!

Sadly, this way of thinking seems to have taken over in the churches also, with bigger and bigger properties and the immense push for the introduction of tiding, coupled with an absence of hearing the words of The Lord Jesus to his disciples, (including us) “Do not store up treasures for yourself here on earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break in and steal, But store up treasures for yourself in heaven, where moth and rust do not consume, and where thieves do not break in and steal. FOR WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS, THERE YOUR HEART WILL BE ALSO.” Remember also the parable of the rich man with his bigger and bigger barns? (Luk 12:13-21)
