"If your whole body is full of light, having no part in darkness, it will be wholly bright as when a lamp with its rays gives light."

Jesus said of his disciples, “You are the light of the world.” (Matt 5:14), but clearly, as in every other area of our spiritual life with God, we have a proactive part to play by cooperating with the grace of God which is so freely available to us IN CHRIST JESUS, by not preventing that light from shining out. Because, for this marvelous light to be fully effective for our Father’s glory it must radiate from every area of our lives. We cannot be involved in any activity which does not clearly acknowledge and show that the Spirit of Christ is in total control. For example, if we are worried and anxious about anything, then clearly the Master is not Lord of our whole life.

Jesus also said in Matt 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men {that is, shine in such a way} that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” {Not just you} It is so easy to get this simple, but so important thing wrong by acting in such a way that we give the impression that we are the ones who are achieving whatever it is we are doing in our own strength and abilities.

There is a passage in Ps 73:25-26 which says, “Who have I in heaven but you my Lord? And there is nothing on this earth which I desire apart from you. My heart and my flesh may fail, but you are the strength of my heart and my portion forever”

I asked the Lord to make this passage real in my life many years ago. What he did was to set up a desire in me to have no interest in anything if he were not intimately involved in it with me. That has been such a blessing to me over the years. Thank you my Lord!!
