“Do not let sin reign in your mortal bodies to make you obey its passions. Do not yield your bodies to sin as instruments of
wickedness, but instead yield them to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness. For sinwill have no dominion over you since you are not under law, but under grace.”
Last time, in Rom 6:11, we looked at what the word of our God has to say about the inevitability of us continuing to sin, and now in Rom 6;12 we will have a look at how God intended us to experience this continual victory over our old sin habits. This scripture begins with the command, “Do not let sin reign”, and the very wording here makes it clear it is our choice as to whether it does that or not. Of course this is only possible because of what Jesus Christ did on Calvary for us.
The verse continues with another command, “Do not yield your bodies to sin”; clearly telling us again that it is our choice; and finally we are given the directions we need in order to experience this victory, i.e. “Yield your members to God as those who have been brought from death to life”, and we can do this BY YIELDING OUR MEMBERS TO OUR GOD AS INSTRUMENTS OF HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. Once again, our choice! Amazing grace!!
We finish with Rom 6:14, i.e. “For sin will have no dominion over you since you are not under law but under grace.” What an absolutely wonderful, liberating, victorious statement!!
So which way will you choose today, VICTORY or defeat!!
