“Do good and be rich in good deeds, liberal and generous, laying up for yourselves a good foundation for the future so that you may take hold of life, which is life indeed.”The Lord Jesus said, “Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not consumer, and where thieves do not break in and steal. FOR WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS, THER WILL YOUR HEART BE ALSO!”
Isn’t it wonderful how the scriptures, the word of God, not only poses the challenges for us to lay up an eternal foundation, eternal treasure, but also show us how we are to meet those challenges? Mind you those good deeds are not something we can dream up for ourselves, i.e. social works, but instead they have been set out clearly for us in our God’s word. While those of us who have truly been reborn of the Spirit of our God, the Spirit of his Word, are fully aware of Eph 2:8-9, we must never forget the next verse, Eph2:10 “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus FOR GOOD WORKS WHICH GOD PREPARED BEFOREHAND, THAT WE SHOULD WALK IN THEM.” Those works coming from a deep, God given love and devotion to him, and a sincere love of the brethren: This is very clearly laid out for us in many places in the scriptures, but probably nowhere more clearly than by Jesus in Matt 25:31-46. Please read and take to heart! One last thought, Jesus said, “See I am coming soon bringing my recompense with me to repay everyone for what they have done in the flesh.” (Rev 22:12) |
