“The Macedonian believers gave according to their means, and beyond their means, BEGGING us for the favour of taking part in the relief of the saints.”

What extraordinary love and generosity! How do we as God’s children compare today I wonder! Are we of a similar spirit, seeking opportunities to assist in spreading the good news of what God has done for us in Christ Jesus, and of assisting the brethren in places where they suffer badly either because of poverty, persecution, famine, natural disasters, greedy governments etc? Or are we, as mere humans, seeking to expand our immediate church group or denomination?

Is our passion to see our God glorified, or is it to see our personal area of influence expanded? Do we really take to heart the Lord’s purpose in saving us and causing us to be reborn of his mighty Spirit as laid out for us very clearly in many places in the scriptures? Rom 7:4 “You have died to the law through the body of Christ so THAT YOU MAY BELONG TO ANOTHER; TO HIM WHO HAS BEEN RAISED FROM THE DEAD IN ORDER THAT YOU MAY BEAR FRUIT FOR GOD.” See also 1Cor 6:19-20 among many others!

Are we instead behaving as mere humans, looking after our own families and those we feel comfortable with? Do we ever really get outside our comfort zone?
